Hi,
Curious if any '68 guys have tried putting on 295/50 R15 tires on your stock rims. I was wondering if they rub or if I need to mod anything to go with it before I buy the tires. The Tire Dimension guide says that the 55/35 series tires will fit, but I'm a little skeptical. I'm looking to get a little more tread than the 255's offer. Thanks.

Sorry I can't help, I'm running with 215 BFG TA's 70's on stock rims.
In these cars, the tires make up a big part of the suspension and lower profile tires can make the ride harsher.
Are you using the stock '68 "AG" 15x7 rims or the '69 & up "AZ" 15x8 rims?
295's seem pretty wide for a 7" rim. I've seen tires like this on a 69 & they stuck outside of the fenders. They had to rub when the car dipped.

A friend of mine has a '69 vert. He used a larger/wider tire size on his 15" ralley rims (I don't know off hand what size). They rubbed bad and actually took a small chunk out of his lower right front fender. What a mess!

Lifetime MemberThe 255/60 15 was actually too big for many cars before 78. After that the 60 were okay. Anything before that may or may not rub fiberglass. There was a lot of body variations in those years. The 60s do fit on my 75. I think the 50s would really be taking a chance.

I run BF TA's at 235/70 15. Personally I wouldn't go any wider. Look and run great.

I put BFs 255/60/15 in the rear and 245/60/15 in the front, dropped the pressure down to 28 psi, looks good and nice comfortable ride.

Not sure if your still looking at this but i am running 255/15 front and 275/15 rear and they have zero roomon my 82'; however no issues with fenders being affected and i live near some crappy road in colorado. I think any bigger would be a bad deal without offset TA's and/or custome rims/wheels.
