Vette(s): Just finished 2 years of Blood, Sweat, & Tears restoring my 69 Coupe. Crimsom Red, 427, vacuum removed, Shot of Steeroids, Killer Lights, 5 Speed, still working on small things but she is back on the road.
I have to change my trailing arms on my 69. When the new ones arrived they were shaped differently than the old ones. I don't think my taping the spacers will get it done this time. The new arm has a more curve in it than the old one. Can someone point me in the direction of how to adjust the new ones close enough so I can get it back together. I then can take it to a place to have them professionally adjusted on a computer? |headscratch|

They should be nearly identical if they are a direct replacement. Do you think you might have received offet trailing arms?

No I made sure I did not order the 2" off set trailing arms offered. These should be a direct replacement. However the ones I took off were more straight. The new ones have more of a curve in them. I measured them since I had them out and it looks as if the front to back are very close. However the neck mounting with the pivit bolt onto the frame has a different off set than the old ones. That is why I don't think I can just take the spacers as I taped them and use the same spacing.

Yes to answer your question the new ones sink into the differential. The old ones were more straight.

Glassman69,

I believe the first order of business is to contact your supplier and verify that what you ordered is what you got. If they guarantee that those are the correct parts, then I would proceed per THEIR recommendation.

You previously mentioned your intent to have the rear suspension professionally aligned. I agree completely.

Your best option is to re-assemble the rear end with the shims in their original position. The pivot bolts are not supposed to be torqued down with the wheels off the ground anyway. So, once you have the car back on the ground, roll it back and forth fifteen or twenty feet so the suspension can settle. If you don't like the toe set, then move the shims and roll the car again. Eyeballing it will only get you close (maybe even extremely close). So, have a pro dial it in anyway. You're paying for both camber and toe to be set correctly and the pro will probably charge you for the full alignment either way. Let him earn his fee by setting both.

Hope this helps. |thumb|

Lumberjack,

Thanks, I will take your advice. As long as I get it close so I can get it to the shop without messing anything up is all I want.
Thanks again for your help.
