Hi Guy's, just to update you on how I went with new tyres for the 79.
Finally decided to go with the same as was what was on the Vette, BFGOODRICH TA RADIAL, but increased the size from 235's to 245/60 15's
Got in contact with The Tire Rack, they quoted me $US352.00 plus $US200.00 for shipping with FEDX, this equates to $AU710.00, still cheaper than the $1100.00 quoted out of Melbourne (only supplier I could find in OZ.
From leaving the store in the USA to reaching my door in Australia it took 8 days, arrived on the Wednesday and were fitted on the Thursday. The vette looks and feels heaps better, not to mention the piece of mind knowing the new shoes won't let me down when I need them.
I must say that the service from The Tire Rack
was very good, prompt with there reply's and up front with information on prices and shipping oversees. Would highly recomend them for any one looking for tyres

As the tyres I took off were old in years but still looked like new, I put them in the local paper and sold them for $AU300.00 all in all a good deal.
Again thanks for your feed back and help.

Buurrrr I did not think you got that cold of weather, our summer here in upstate NY has been wet and cold....rip off!

Good to hear everything worked out, Andy! Betcha it feels better going into a turn with those new shoes and no worries! Its funny, though. My 79 came with 255/60 tires. Stay warm!
