Take a look at the extra brackets on this rear spring. It appears(to me) to be a piece(s) of an old traction bar set-up, with the forward pieces cut off.(That, or what's left of a wheelie bar set-up!) Anyone ever seen this?
This is on a '69 Vette that belongs to Ken(lost in the 60's)

Are these some type of fossils (brackets) from a trailer hitch mount. She may have pulled around one o those cute lil eggshells in her day...Tuxblacray2007-03-11 17:25:25

I have no idea what it is. I know about all the crud under there..yuk..but that's what I'm getting ready to do. I asked Joel what kind of spring mount that was...didn't look like any I have seen.

Those look just like the set I have on my 72, they anchor the trailer hitch.

Mine aren't quite so crusty, but then mine haven't seen all that many miles.

Those are the brackets for a tow bar for a trailer hitch.  Had one on my 74.  it had another bracket mounted to the rear side of the frame and had a Bolt thru each bracket to hold the the trailer bar. The bolt near the back end could be released so you could drop it down and still get to the spare tire!
