Thanks for the ideas - it has 225/60R15s on all 4 tires, and has since I've had it (1 1/2 y) as well as stock wheels. I'll definitely take some measurements as described.

ranger3 - control arms have not been messed with since I've had it - who knows before?. How could I tell - or should I have my mechanic check it?

jayare - what's the deal with the nose mask - I've never used one until now. Can you give me some idea of what kind of problems it might cause with the paint? Right now, I'm just using it to cover up an ugly chip on the driver side bumper.

Todd....I just bought a 78SA with the nose shield (bra) and the trailing edge (closest to the hood) had an abrasion strip right under where that wide seam is. There was other abrasion areas along with this main one that is quite noticeable. I don't really care about this damage because I have plans for new paint.....but, I wish it wasn't there. The new paint is not coming for about a year so as soon as the weather warms up a bit i'll try to rub it out. This is the second "bad" experence with fabric on the hood. I have a black Ford truck that used to have a bug shield on it until I removed it. Several of the poly buttons were missing and allowed the lexan shield to abraid the paint. Enter old genius me, I thought of a hood 'bra' to cover the damage and save 200 bucks for a hood repaint. Yes, you guessed it,,,"ABRASION",,,everywhere under that thing. I had kept it clean under there too.
These bras if installed correctly will not flap or appear to be moving in any way, but....there is a small amount of vibration from the wind and the car itself to abraid paint in a short period of time....at least for me...hence the word, "RAG"

[QUOTE=Norsky]Spacers will move the wheel OUT farther which will cause MORE rubbing when turning.  To stop the rubbing you need to either run a narrower tire or change to a rim  that has the center plane closer to the outside edge (which narrows the track width and moves the tire closer to the frame).

changing the wheel backspacing can also cause its own set of issues with rubbing..
