I'm getting in on this discussion a little late -- but I just put Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's, size P255/60R15 all the way around on my '69.
They handle and ride great!
HMMMMM. Tried to paste a photo in here but it didn't work.

Vette(s): 1974 Black 454 Stingray coupe, turbo 400 tranny, barry grant 750 carb, hooker super competition headers, moves along!
i've been looking at tire rack, i'm still undecided between the bfg radial ta and the firestone firehawk indy 500, the firestone's have a better treadwear rating and much better response from previous buyers, let me know how the firestone's do. The firestone's are cheaper, and have a better treadwear rating which is good because i will only spin mine off.

Have BFG's on American Torq-Thrust D's on my 77.Awesome looks, great ride, great handling! Can't beat the price or availibility!

I have Pirelli Scorpion Zero 255/60 VR 15's on my '77. Handle great and are NOT noisy.
The VR speed rating is good for sustained 149mph.
I bought mine from Tirerack.com
Jeff
ps. They are listed as a sport truck tire . This gives you a slightly stiffer sidewall which helps with the handling.

Hi!
I also drive a 454 (1971) and I also care about the speed rating. It took me a while to make up my mind about what tires I should go with. After reviewing all the replies posted in the plethore of threads on this very subject ,I finally decided to go with the Firehawk PV41 (235/70R15, V-rated).
You may want to look at http://www.1010tires.com/Firestone_Firehawk_PV41_tires.html
I can't say whether I made a good choice yet, but if you are not in hurry and if you are interested, I will let you know whether I am a happy driver or not.
