When taking off my water pump, do I need to first take the fan and the pulleys off to get it out of the car?  Thanks for you help!Smile

Yes...take the fan off, and then the wp pulley will come off next. Make a mental note, or take photos of where all the brackets go before disassembly...makes it much easier to put back together!

Thank you.  Do I need to use a puller to get the fan and and pulley off the pump?

Usually not.  The fan will come off as you take off the 4 nuts holding it.  The pulleys may slip right off or may need to be nudged a little to move them from the guide pin.

no you don't need a puller. The fan may be a little tight but just wiggle it and it should come right off, the pulley is held on by the fan bolts and should fall right off after the fan is removed

Can anyone tell me what the true difference is between the aluminum water pump and the conventional.  I need to replace my pump and am unsure which one to get.  I see the high performance aluminum pump with heavy duty bearings etc. but are these really better than the originals?  Thanks for you information on this!
