Contemplating installing  dual exhaust on my "80". Mid America requires that I specify the location of the O2  sensor when placing the order. Looked high and low from exhaust manifold to muffler outlet tip and could not find it.  Does a  1980 even have one ?  Anyone out there with any knowledge of this ??

Should not be one on an '80.  No computer.

Not sure about the 1980, but I did convert my '82 to true dual exhaust. After sh$tcanning the catalytic converter, the techs bent the piping to duplicate factory routing as much as practical, and that bending included getting around the spare tire and taking it all the way to the rear, and that the techs bending the pipe ensured all angles and clearances were met.

My system ended up with Flowmasters welded in with chrome tips added at the back and angled to look like the factory tip angle. Once the pipe was installed, the techs then torched a hole on the right hand pipe where the wire and Os sensor hung, welded a thread stud in that hole and installed the sensor back in.

Keep in mind now the O2 sensor will only 'read' 4 cylinders instead of 8, but should keep your 'check engine' light out.

If you do NOT have O2 sensors (my 1980 Corvette knowledge is fuzzy), make sure your air pump works properly to keep the 'check engine' light off, as its part of the sensor system.

Hope all of what I wrote makes sense. And good luck! You will notice a difference in performance albeit a small one. It was a $400 conversion, but worth it on sound and some gain in performance.

No O2 sensor on the 80. I know that for sure.LOL

Corvettes and women are the same...You want to make love to them but they keep breaking down.

Tell them it's in fantasy land...
The '80 does not have an O2 sensor, UNLESS it is/was a Californication delivered car....

Vette(s): White '79 Corvette. It's a driver.
My true dual system came from Mid America, too.
I remember seeing something about "for off road use only." That might explain the lack of cats & O2 sensor(s) but don't tell anyone. Wink
Let us know how it goes.
