I just aquired my 81 and have several odds and ends on the car that need attention, one being the cruise control,
I noticed while under the hood one day that their was no linkage attached to the carb, and that when the radio was on and the cruise was turned on I could hear static interference through the speakers.
Well I put two and two together and figured it must at least have power to the switch and decided to hook up linkage to the carb, to my suprise it worked...KINDA.. whenever I hit the resume switch it just takes off and continues to climb until I either hit the brake or turn it off by the switch... P.S. it will even increase engine RPM while in neutral.. any advice would be welcomed Vettehead1963

I know on my 82 if you push and hold the resume switch the car will accelerate until you let off it and then it is suppose to hold that new speed. Sounds like the switch might be bad. Don't know what kind of a job it is changing it.

Well The Wife and I took about a 200 mile cruise this past Thursday and the darn thing seemed to work perfect... only thing is the cruise only works if I hit resume... I just run it up to speed then hit resume and it seemed to hold it pretty good... the set and coast button seems to have no effect at all, it does nothing,, hard to figure this out...

It sounds like the set button isn't working. Go to the transducer with the key on and see which wire has power. Now go to the other one, and push the set button. At about 1/2 way in, the wire should have power. All the way in or released it will be dead. If you get nothing you either have a bad connection between the switch and transducer, or a bad switch. There is a three wire connector at the bottom of the steering column that is the connector for the cruise switch. You can recheck here for correct operation to determine if it's the switch.
