|cool| Ijust purchased a 1968 convertable that sat for 21 years in this gentlemans back gaurage and I cannot find any info on what is stamped into the block pad. I do know that the first number is 18S412611 (412611 is part of the vin number) I dont know what the 18S means? The second number and letters are as follows, VO219HT I do know that the HT stands for 350 HP. I need some assistance to figure out what it means. does anyone know where the vin tag that shows the vin number is located on the car. I have a tag at the base of the windshield but only shows trim and color code.
Thank you in advance.

Tom, put your VIN on here and we can help. If you feel strange about that, leave out the sequence number

No big deal. Some people don't like to put pics of their cars with license numbers displayed. Who knows? |biggrin|

Don't worry. I screwed up anyway. I forgot you have a '68, the VIN on that year won't give you engine classification. You are left to either looking on the engine pad or the build sheet.
Sorry |sad|

According to the "Lime Book" an HT can be a 65 327 High Performance with a four barrell carb and manual transmission. It can also be a 66, 67, or 68 327ci out of a Corvette with 350 hp (the Specail High Performance engine), 4 barrell carb, and four speed. It can also be a 69 350 ci engine with 255 hp out of a full size passenger car.
V0219 means you have a small block engine that was built in Flint. According to the NCRS spec guide, this started in 1967 and later. The 0219 means it is an engine machined February 19. When was this car built? The VIN sequence seems correct for a car that was built sometime in late February. According to the Black Book the last car off of the assembly line in Feb. was VIN 12647. As I see it, the block is perfect for your car since it was machined less than two weeks prior to the car coming out of the assembly plant.

|thumb| Gary, Thanks for the help. This all makes sence now. If I were to assume that in the calendar year 1968 in the month of February that had 29 days and If the assembly line did not work on Saturdays, They manufactured approx. between 107 and 108 cars a day. My Vin number is 412611. Knowing the last vin number for that month was 412647, My car was built February 29th. With the engine block machining date of February 19th. What does the V mean before the 0219? Is that the machinists initial???
Thanks a bunch, Tom

The V is the code for the Flint engine plant. There was also a T for Tonawanda (sp?) but that is for big blocks I think. As I noted in the first sentence of my reply, the engine plants changed a bit during the mid-60's.
