Vette(s): 1978 Silver Anniversary model. Original L82 engine, 700r4 trans, edelbrock intake, thorly headers, rack&pinion steering, mono rear and front spring, MSD 6A box
Can anyone give me an idea on what is involved in turning my 78 L-82 engine into a 383 stroker, cost etc.
Thanks

hubby just did one for his camaro sounds good(iwant one)
used edelbrock heads, cam, inlet, topped off by a 670 street avenger carb, revs up really fast

just watch your compression.not to much.
a guess would be around $1500 if you do some work yourself

Vette(s): 1979 L82 4 speed Scat 383 crank 190 cc Procomp Aluminum Heads 202 160 stainless valves GM Powder metal rods Speedpro H860CP Hypereutectic pistons 280 cam hydralic HEI Pro comp 1.6 roller rockers Mighty Demon 750 Sanderson CC1AP Hedders.
Check out your local engine builders/race shops, you can get some really good deals. I paid around 4500 for mine and got everything listed on my description except hedders plus the motor was dyno'd already. I thought it would be better to save the stock engine for later. I got a couple pics of the 383 in this link.
you can buy the motor totally assembled from edelbrock, just specify the year so that they can install the proper oil pan, just drop it in and start it up, comes with a 2 year warranty also,,rd

Thanks for all the info. I'll look into all the options.
I bought a shortblock from Larrysperformance.com. You should check them out! You could get a long block, or everything to assemble it yourself, and shipping was not bad.
i would think jegs or summit would be better prices.
Actually, you need to buy Edelbrock from a distributor like Jegs or Summit.
Jegs has GM Performance Engines also, which are good deals.
