I have tried several times to reply to that message and it locks up my internet. I would agree with the one who said for a 396 don't do it. A big block is heavier, harder to cool, and pulleys/brackets are more expensive. A small block car has an almost 50/50 weight distribution. If you want a 427/454/502 then it might be worth it, but for a 396 I'd rather spend the money on a Tuned-Port/LT1/LS1 or similar to go in there. Gobs of low-end torque, good mileage, easy to start. My .02, sell the 396 on Ebay and use the money to add Tuned-Port. My friend calls it "Fuel injected therapy for the torque impaired".

There's a company that sells complete balanced drop-in assemblies for converting 350 to 383. It includes crank, rods, pistons, dampener, and i think flywheel/flexplate, for only a few hundred dollars. All you have to do is the block machining. I can't remember their name, they advertize in Chevy High Performance. Joe
