L00L Guys ya I'll check them out. We just got back from the engine place. Its not $895, now its $1,300 They still remanufacture my heads, put new RV cams, stage1 pistons, bore my blcok out (30 over), and grind my crank, and camshafts down, and give me double rollers! No more chanins!. The guy I talked to there is a very knowledgable man. He knew exactly what I was talking about, and even more than I, my dad, and my cousin knew combined! He told me that the hooker headers, would do me no good, becasue they use a third of an inch thick steel And the heat heats up the headers, and then when it gets cool the steel wrinkles up and the bolts fall off, and my dad remembers having this problem on his vette. So we are goign to use the stock headers, adn have them chrome dipped, or ceramic coated we dont know yet. As for the carb, we are going to get the Edlebrock 1406 600CFM, the guy there said that he can show us some nifty tricks with that carb so we can get more power with it. And the intake we are goign to get the:

SB-Chevy 262-400, non-EGR*
Manifold w/Installation Kit

Link to carb:

The guy has been there for awhile, he has a lot of mahcines, we seen a lot of his work; and its really really, really good. They took a '69 350 Caddilac Northstar engine, and rebuilt the fuel system! Now its a carb system, instead of fuel injected. They even built the special manifold for it out of their own cast. THe engine now pushes out 412HP, fu***** amazing! And yes everything will be balaced out. He said that when the "Hoppy's" place rebuilds the tranny, to have them put a 1st stage shift kit in. And get Flow Master exausts, I was thinking American Thunder. I'm going to have to call them up.

Late,
-Louis

Be aware that the Performer RPM intake and that carb will be a VERY tight fit. When I used that set up, the air cleaner was in light contact with the hood when closed. Don't slam the hood and watch out for the motor 'torque twist'. A low profile air cleaner is a must have.

I must disagree..

thats why we all suggested the ceramic coated headers.. they dont get as hot.

stock manifolds will never perform as well as headers.

and as for the bolts falling out.. yes this is an issue.. thats why you use locking bolts.

they make locking bolts specifically for headers.

Vette(s): 1979, 350sb, as my kids affectionately call it "shit brown" Corvette purchased in 1996. 84,000+ miles. Not a show car, but I love her just the same.
Am curious why no one has suggested the Dynamax ceramic coated headers? I found them to be the least expensive and have performed quite well since the install on my 79.

BTW - I too am running with the Edelbrock non-EGR manifold with an Edelbrock 650 carb. Couldn't be happier!

The steel does not wrinkle up. It does expand and contract, and the bolts do come lose.

As Ben said that's what locking fasteners are for.

As I must agree with the locking bolts. But as for the fact that the cermaic coated headers are like $539+shipping, from a reliable company... I Decided to just stay with stock, you can't beat stock. When I take all the emission crap off,a dn the catalytic converter and clean the stok headers up a bit, I will gaina massive amount in performance and sound. Not to mention that when I add the Flow Master Exausts on, it will increase the power greatly, provide way better sound, and looks. And I will have saved $300-$539.00

Aftershark works for holley/hooker... thats pretty reliable.

you can definitely beat stock. there are no stock headers, there are stock exhaust manifolds.

provide way better sound, and looks. And I will have saved $300-$539.00

I cant argue with the savings

What I meant was that I trust you guys on the forums, but lets face it Aftershark is some dude on the internet, regardless of weather he works for holley, Edlebrock, or what not. But my parents wont be cool with me buying parts from single people over the internet. As for the stock thing, there are always cars with which you cannot beat stock depending on weiter or not its for street, or drag. It all depends. Witht hsi car I eman I don't need any extreme headers. Lets also face the fact that Chevy put their heart and soul into the Vette, It was not just some low budget piece of crap, or a camaro where there could be a lot more room then the vetter for more performance. So for now I don't want to go too crazy. As for now the engine rebuild, and it should bring the engine up to 295HP+ By the time hes done with it, is more than enough. And hes building the engine noone else, so if he reccomends stock headers, for my best potential canidate for headers, I'm going to have to do it. Not to mention hes going to give me a whole bunch of ways for cheap to get even more HP out of the car... And he guarentees my engine for 7Years/100k Miles
