I hope to have car running this week, if so should have a read on the A/C within several. I had to have that line fabricated. The main thing with the 134 from what Ive read is different O-Rings. that is basically all that is changed to make the conversion. I am also thinking of changing my 72 to 134 if all goes well. I will try to rememebr to post back in a couple weeks

There was an article in either Vette or Corvette Fever covering the change-over to R134. I think there is also a difference in the oil and the hoses must be different due to seapage. I will try to find the article and send you the month it came out. Maybe you can get a back issue sent to you, or it may even be on line.

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.
I got this article from corvette magazine. It tells everything needed to do to change a compressor and change to 134. Good luck!!!

HEY, GOOD LUCK ON THE CHANGE OVER ON YOUR 72. PLEASE LET ME KNOW, AS I PLAN ON DOING IT TO MY 74. I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN WHAT ALL IS INVOLVE AND THE COST, NOT THAT COST IS AN ISSUE, JUST CURIOUS.

Every year, my A/C leaks enough freon to make it quit working til I shoot in a little more R-12. It is starting to get a little expensive, along with being extremely hot on these 95 deg. days like today was. Has anyone ever tried useing the AC stop leak, and is it still available. I remember seing it several years ago, but is it still out there?

Has anyone ever bypassed the heater by looping one of the heater hoses? Does this work, and will it affect anything else? My car is so doggone hot that I can't hardly stand to be in it in the daytime. I think most of the heater valves leak some fluid through, and the A/C can't overpower the heater on hot days.

I don't know if this is correct or not. Memory fails day by day but I kinda remember not having to by pass heater hoses. I think all we used to do ( years ago ) was cut the supply line and put in a shut off valve and reconnect both ends of the hose to the valve. I know exactly what you are saying about the heater never seeming to shut off. My air is disconnected right now and I am pretty much dying from heat already and it is still spring.

I did that many years ago on my '69 Cougar when I blew a heater core and didn't have the money right away to get if fixed. Fortunately it was summertime so didn't need the heat right away. I don't remember there being any side effects from doing that.

I cut the supply line and installed a cut-off valve. When the ac worked this worked well. I still have an awesome amount of heat mainly coming off the engine. part of the nature of being a C3 I guess. I would like to cut out as much heat as possible . maybe I need a different type of heat shield.
