Just purchased my brother's '78 with 14,000+ miles and has not been started in nearly 15 years (which is a whole different topic).
Is it best to rebuild/inspect engine and transmission right from the start?
Average cost for each.
Your expertise is much appreciated.
Thanks.

I would change the oil and filter, put in fresh gas, and check the spark plugs and clean them or replace them. Then you can charge the battery or replace it with a new one and see if you can start it. Then I would change the transmission fluid and filter. It would be a good idea to also inspect the brake calipers for leakage since they are prone to rusting internally and allowing brake fluid to get past the seals on the pistons. Of course if they have been replaced with stainless-steel lined calipers then this would not be necessary. Finally the brake fluid should be flushed and replaced.
