Vette(s): 1970 convertible. Red with a white soft top and black vinyl hardtop. Black vinyl interior. Base 350/300 engine. AT. Few options. Awesome driver. Original color was Daytona Yellow. Have tank sticker.
I've got a '70 convertible (350/300) with what I think is a weak alternator. I'm getting an okay charge during the day, but virtually no charge at night with my headlights on. I haven't stalled out yet, but my turning signals slow way down at night and I feel like I'm close to stalling. (The battery is new, so it's not the battery). My question is this: Any danger in replacing my old alternator with a new 100-amp alternator? I've seen one on ebay that's advertised to be specifically for C3 Corvettes. What do you think? Thanks!

Bob, welcome to the C3VR
why not get it rebuilt? It sounds like a problem I had with the CE and when it was rebuilt it turned out to be the internal regulator and stator. Just an idea and might be cheaper. Mine cosyt $75 to rebuild and it is the original one

Thanks, 82dukman, I'll consider a rebuild. It's good to be a part of CV3R.

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.

Bob,
In my experience with alternators, I have found that most of the problems come from worn brushes. Get a manual from a 1970 corvette, and tear into it. They are pretty easy to repair. Of course, if the armature is bad, you may have to get a rebuilt alt. Try repairing it yourself first.
Good luck!!
