anybody seen these distributor / coil covers?

how do you get these things off? ive been looking at it from all angles , pulling / prying / turning...

Vette(s): 1972 conv, 4-speed, 350, 200hp, numbers match, rally wheels, war bonnett yellow w/white top. good condition, nice driver.

Try pushing the black dots through the holes one at a time. They have a ridge on them to hold the wires down. Pull up on edge to keep the dot from coming back through.

jeez...  yeah i see those black dots are part of the plug wires it seems. thing feels like it was pressed on in the factory !

Never seen one like that, but it may well be glued onto the cap....I don't see any clips to suggest otherwise. The plug wires may be the only thing holding it on, too.

By chance does that center emblem pop off?  Might be something under it holding the shiny thing to the distributor cap.  🤔

ha, i tried everything. definitely looks like there are crimps in the holes that lock onto the top of the wire plugs...  talk about over engineering!  the thing IS ON THERE

Yes, the plug wires DO lock on the ring. The wire caps have a detent that LOCKS on the ring. Hence, the need to separate the two one at a time. As you say, "Its not going back on", it may be pertinent to cut/destroy each hole to relieve pressure to remove the ring. The ring SHOULD be separate from the cover. It may be to your advantage, if it's running well, to leave it as is.
