I know there's a lot of controversy about reduced ZDDP in modern motor oils, and its impact on flat tappet engines. I've always heard that the STP red label for 4-cylinder engines contains about double the ZDDP of the STP blue label but it's been difficult to find in stores as so many have searched it out. This morning I stopped by the local Ollie's Bargain Outlet and they have cases and cases of the red label STP for $1.99 per container. I don't know where they bought it...some chain going out of business or whatever, but that's a bargain for anyone wanting it.
If anyone has an Ollie's close by, give it some thought.

that red and blue STP stuff you speak of is it motor oil or the honey lookin stuff you add to worn out engines, I add a bottle of "ZDDPlus " to my oil changes when I need a ZDDP fix......www.kirbanperformance.com

Hey Gunslinger,
I was under the impression that the STP with the red lable was for "high mileage" vehicles. The reason I avoided it was I was afraid it might soften up the new valve guide seals too much in my motor. I just did them two years ago.
I currently use Lucas brand oil stabilizer for the ZDDP.
Any feedback is much appreciated!
Kevin

The red label is for 4-cylinder engines.  The transparent container STP is for high mileage, smoke treatment, and the black container is for engines leaking oil.  Even the blue label STP is supposed to have sufficient ZDDP, the red label is supposed to have double that amount.  That seems to make a difference to some...that's all I'm saying and giving people an option.

There's a number of additives that have ZDDP...STP is just one of them.

I used Crane Cams Super Lube on the break-in of my engine. I also add it to every oil change.  It runs about 10.00 per bottle but it may be hard to come by since Crane is closing.  I also use Restore in my Mazda. This seems to work very well.

Corvettes and women are the same...You want to make love to them but they keep breaking down.
