I was wondering if anyone can help me or give me some advise. My engin is starting to make a ticking nois, but only when I accelorate. After I get up to speed it stops. I tink that it may be a bad lifter, but I wanted to get a second openion about this. I would hate to go all the way down and it not be that. I adjusted the backlash out of my valves, checked the exaust manifolds, the destributor cap, and the torque converter. I did notice that the ticking was louder when I got underneath it. Please help me. |headscratch| I just rebuilt the thing and really don't feel like tearing back into it this soon if I don't have to. |ohwell|

Check the heat riser, on the passenger side. I am not sure on your year, but it was changed from the butterfly aneroid cell type.
The later ones have a rod going down to the heat riser.
Sometime this comes loose, especially if you are driving the car more then previously, or more then the previous owner.
Also, a blown doughnut at the exhaust manifold, giving an exhaust leak will tick like hell, emulating a metal tapping noise. Loose exhaust manifold bolt at the header exit, or anywhere there is an exhaust leak.
Since you are hearing it more when under the car, an exhaust leak is probably the culprit.
You should hear it more at idle then any other time. |saluteflag| |cool|

Few years back i rebuilt a 350, same ticking noise. After readjusting the valves it was still there, here it was coming from the fuel pump.Check it out it's easier than tearing you motor apart. |hammer|

thanks guys for the help. I will check those areas next time I get the car out. I thought that I checked the exaust pipe, but I will check the gasket. It might be blown. The only thing is the ticking only comes when I accelorate then goes away. I cannot even hear it when the engin idles. Dave, did you actualy change out the fuel pump? How did you make the nois go away. Thanks for the imput guys. Ya'll have given me some ideas as to what to check. |cheers|

Pinch the supply hose to the fuel pump while the engine is running, then wait a few minutes. If the noise changes the pump is the problem. You can also use a hose or vacuum line as a listening device to track down an exhaust leak. You could have a loose torque converter bolt or cracked flywheel in an automatic, or loose clutch bolt in a manual. If it will do it sitting still by loading the engine it will help. This is easier with an automatic, but can be done with a clutch if you are carefull, and only for VERY short periods. You don't want to burn the clutch.

Yea I checked the torque converter bolts and they were all tight and secure. I did not notice any cracks in the fly wheal itself though. The fuel pump is the next thing on my list thanks to you guys. |saluteflag| I spoke to some other people around here about some of these sudjestions and they say the same thing. I will check the fuel pump and let everyone know how it turned out. |thumb|

There was a "clinging" noise in 74's stroker engine. It was due to wear and tear of the gear on the cam, which interlinks with the gear on the distributor.

Hope this helps.

(For those who read my previous posts - This GOOD NEWS IS - BLISS (74) is BACK ON THE ROAD and we enjoy every moment of it!!!! The engine was rebuild) |thumb|
