Hi guys! Greetings! What a great forum.

Question...

What's the best way to polish the valve covers for a 73 L-82? I have tried all the regular chrome/aluminum stuff and nothing gets the oxidized(?) spots off. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Matt

The key to polishing is to go backwards before you go forwards. Start with sandpaper to remove corrosion, pitting, etc. 320 is probably enough, unless you are dealing with a poor piece, then use 220. After getting a uniform smooth finish with the 320, go to 400 and 600 grit. Only then break out the polishing wheels. Use red rouge to get rid of the sanding scratches, then follow up with white finishing polish for a chrome like shine. S100 makes a good protective spray, or you can clear coat when you are done to preserve the finish. Joe
