I am attempting to replace my stock intake/carb on my 72 big block while keeping my stock hood.I have tried to use an Edlebrock performer and Holley carb. I can't close the hood with just the intake and carb. I was told that the "performer" was the shortest of the after market intakes with the exception of the Edlebrock torker. With the "torker" I loose lots of bottom end so I haved ruled that model out. Any intakes out there that will fit under my stock hood? I have tried Weiand also wthout any luck.

You'll be hard pressed to find ANYthing aftermarket that will fit under the stock hood, even using a drop base aircleaner.
So- it's either L-88 hood or GM LS-6 aluminum intake.

I have a 71 Big Block and finally went to the L-88 hood stock. My Vette is Black and it really looks meaner. That way you can use the Edelbrock Performer RPM and a good carb and "really wake her up" down low. It really makes a difference.
The old Torker II sometimes puddles gas and it is hell on plugs running around town.
Hope this helps.
