While cleaning out junk this weekend, I found a cast iron big block intake. I'm not near my numbers book,
It's casting 3883948, date is D26 8
Is it trash or treasure?

It's not listed in "Corvettes by the Numbers". Its casting date is April 26, 1968. Since it apparently is not a Corvette application, it may well be for other models like a Chevelle or Impala with big blocks. They didn't have height limits as severe as the Corvette did to fit under the hood.

If it has rectangular ports rather than oval ports, it's more valuable. They went on the very high performance versions. Since you said it's cast iron instead of aluminum, I would guess it's for an SS396 Chevelle as they aren't uncommon.

According to Chev.V8 Casting numbers, it was used on 396 thru 427 engines in Cameros, full size chevys, Chevelles and 67 390 hp corvettes. That num. was used 1967-68. It isn't listed in corvettes by the numbers, so there might be some question about the vette application. It should be an oval port.

It's an oval port. I guess I should hang on to it. Bound to be somebody that's restoring a chevelle that needs a boat anchor for it.
Thanks guys! I was at work getting ready to chunk it, figured I'd check first.
