I found a 402 out of a 71 Chevelle for a reasonable cost. Any thoughts on using this block in a C3?

I can tell you that you won't see many Big Block short blocks advertised because builders sell 5 times the small blocks to big blocks. If you call them they can most likely tell you what they have.

Also you may want to look at Scoggin Dickey or GM Perf Parts. They offer a 502 and a 454 short block.

Tommy B,

Hey I just noticed that your in Hudson Fl. I know a great car builder down there that I have been working with for going on 8 years now. The name of the place is called Time Machines. His cars all over the magazines.

Right now I'm working with him on a project he is doing for Hulk Hogan. I got to talk to Hulk and got my picture take with him at the SEMA show. What a great guy with some killer cars. Hulk was telling me about a viper he owns.

Anyway if you ever have time to run by Time machines say hi to Mike Staveski for me. I think you will be amazed at the projects he is working on the quality of the cars. You got to see the Challenger he did that was on the cover of three different magazines. |thumb|

Aftershark,

It sounds farmilar. As for Hulk he is always around here someplace. I am actually in Pinellas Park (between st.pete and clearwater), there are bunches of stars that live around here. If i come across Time machines i will pop in and have a look around. The fellow that has been helping me out is Pete Hillman (Hillman automotive), not cheap but his work is grade A.

Well guys, I found a complete 454 out of an 82 pickup. It's a running engine that was used for primarily farm use and is blowing oil from just about every gasket. It doesn't knock or have any horrible sounds and on the surface appears to be a candidate for a rebuild. I could get it for a fair price considering it's complete with all pulleys and brackets. Machine work would cost about $720 with cam and main bearings installed in addition to it being cleaned, bored, decked, magged, sonic checked, crank polished, reground, balanced and a few other goodies. I may be crazy but I could build it as funds and time permit. Any advice along the way will be appreciated.....

the only substitute for cubic inches is more cubic inches..

the only advice I have to offer.. build it for how you want to use it..

ie dont try to get it to turn 10K rpm (or even 8 for that matter).. it can be done.. but the expense would kill you.. that 454 is a low end torque monster.. if thats what youre trying to build.. youre off to a damn good start..

can you give us casting numbers for the heads ?? the block code would be nice too..
