Ben, a torque monster is what I'm looking to build. Not looking to wind it to anywhere near eight grand. I should be able to pick up the engine next week (as business permits) and will post the casting numbers then.

thats sounds good... lets see how bad the truck heads are then im sure between the lot of us we can recommend a killer setup
If the 454 doesn't work out, I have a '67 427 vette engine in my wrecked '68. I believe it to be intact and complete except for the carb, which a friend wanted. I didn't see short blocks, but for the price of the long block, you could aways sell/trade the heads.
