OK ,I may have lost my mind. I am seriously thinking about puttinga big block in my 72 as I have come about a good one. Obivously I would need to change the springs and radiator and probably the rad shroud. I am not sure what I would do about exhaust but beyond that what else would I need to change? I swore when I  bought this car I that I was not going to do anything but drive this it, but alas I have the uncontrollable urge to tear down and hotrod!! This is a bad disease but it keeps me out of honkeytonks and from going postal on clients. Any help woul be appreciated. PS: I bought the 78 ann.edition last week that I put on the board from the local bank. It turns out to be nicer than I thought. good buy after all. Now my bride wants it to drive so I think after a good cleaning and minor, or maybe not so minor, I do not yet know, she will have a good Shark to sport around in. I am trying to post pictures of both cars.

You'll probably want to change the shocks, sway bars, rear leaf spring & the half shaft u joints. Small blocks are different back there as BB have tons of tq, which if used will tend to break things. I would also recommend half shaft loop protectors on a BB. Not sure about the exhaust..I have dual 2 1/2.  Lota work, but that's what makes it fun

Good luck

Alan

We're talking a lot of work.  Since you're not looking at matching numbers, etc., go get a nice crate motor and it will slip right in and probably get as much if not more HP.  Of course if you don't want to hear this then you've got to change out the springs, shocks, radiator.  Don't know what is coming with the engine, but all the brackets are different and they are getting expensive.  Does it come with distributor, air cleaner, etc.  There are a million little items that really cost.  If this engine comes with all the goodies, then you may be able to swing with deal within a reasonable amount.  Good luck.

Don't forget a hood! The small block hood won't clear a big boy.

Thanks guys! The engine I have acquired does not have all the bracketry. That was something that slipped my mind. For some reason I was thinking the front bracketry was the same. I will now have to think about this . I can probably trade around and get a 400 sb. That would probably be the better rouite for me. There is nothing like cubic inches to make HP but you are right that is a lot of work. I did not realize the Diff was different. I guess  I will have to keep on thinking! THE BEST MONEY I HAVE SPENT LATELY IS ON THIS SITE!

I think I would go with a stroker small block. America Speed have a large selection of SB's from mild to wild, 383,396,406 and more
3-10k, with a small block the car's handling is a little more to neutral, still have to change the drive train, might want to add a five speed, money?, whats that got to do with it, it just go's on and on.....on
