Vette(s): 1976, custom paint, chrome headers/side pipes, front/rear spoilers, dual side sport mirrors, bubble tail light conversion
Does anyone have any information/feedback/experience with crate engines from Blueprint Engines (http://www.blueprintengines.com)?

I've been considering getting one of these to swap out my L48. Looking at thier 383.

Any information/comments would be appreciated.

Thanks!

They're in Kansas right? I received information from them about two years ago, because I was considering buying one of their short blocks and topping it off with a head, cam and intake package. I actually spoke to the owner and he told me most of his clients are circle track racers. They buy a lot of their engines for what is know as the claimer classes. I've used similar short block assemblies from JR motorsports and they work great and in my opinion are a great way to get a great SBC engine built on a budget that make great power. If I remember correctly Blueprint engines is a performance division of their larger company that makes Reman engines (not sure of the Name). Jasper Engines does the same thing, as does Recon. The performance side for each of these remanufacturers should be using the latest equipment to prepare the blocks and using quality bearings and bolts in their rebuilds. I would look at the components they use in the rebuilds and how they prepare each piece. Things to look for are: mag and install new fastners in the rods, align hone the mains, square the block, mill the face of the block, mag and sonic the block. Avoid cranks turned more then .010 under, avoid blocks bored .060 over or more. If you can afford to go internal balanced do so. This means you will need a new balancer, flexplate/converter/flywheel. FYI, most, but not all of these rebuilders tend to use Pioneer bolts, rings, bearings, cams, timing sets, valve springs, locks, etc. Most use TRW hyperutectic pistons. I have used Pioneer stuff in the past with no problems. The last engine I put together using a short block from one of these companies with a heads, cam and intake package made 410 hp and 415 ft lbs on 9.5:1 comp. Hope this information helps.
