Okay.  Time to talk forced induction.  Turbos were once a thought, but that's out, in favor of a good old-fashioned blower.  I want instant right on the throttle zing, acceleration to make my passengers gasp for breath.

Centrifugal superchargers are out, due to their low immediate boost.

Roots, and twin-screw.  Most standard roots style blowers are top-inlet, bottom discharge.  You guys know our situation...not a lot of room, and no desire to cut a hole.  Keeping it all under the hood (even though it'll be a taller hood.)  Whipple Charger's smallblock EFI tuner kit is a twin-screw style unit that offers a rear inlet, bottom discharge.  This saves on room, and apparently the twin-screw if a good combination of low-RPM, instantaneous boost, and high RPM efficiency.  The only thing that really got my goat is their advertised "virtually noise-free operation."  Come on.  Everyone loves that blower whine.  If I didn't want it, I'd stay naturally aspirated.

Anyway, I was reading Corvette Magazine, saw an ad for MagnaCharger.  I know they make a kit for classic small block chevy, with top inlet/bottom discharge, but it seems that their kit for LS1/LS2 corvettes uses a front inlet.  This would save loads on room.  It also has an intercooler available, which is nice because I want to use a high-boost setup (around 10 psi), to really get that stop-your-heart acceleration.  However, it's sold in a kit that replacing the factory LS1/LS2 intake manifold...I don't if this will be a problem, getting it to fit on my 406.  The kit also comes with new fuel injectors, etc, for the LS1/LS2, and a programmer for the factory ECU.  Now of course, I will be converting to aftermarket fuel injection, probably F.A.S.T. or Accel DFI...will I be able to get an aftermarket fuel injection system to work with this unit, with relatively little hassle and customization?  And do you think MangaCharger can pull the injectors and other parts geared toward the LS1/LS2 out of the kit?

There's the website for the MagnaCharger unit.

As another option, I just found out that Whipple Charger makes an LS1/LS2/LS6 tuner kit that they claim is for use  in hot rods, and is built to work with F.A.S.T., Accel DFI, and other aftermarket kits.  Capability claims of 500-1000 HP.  Low-profile port-injected blower manifold, but it still looks pretty damn big.  Dunno if it will fit under the hood I'm looking at (twin turbo style hood,  http://www.c3vr.com/member_uploads/6601_6700/6623/vettehood.jpg)

Also, this kit is not emissions legal (although do I REALLY have to worry about that?!EmbarrassedTongue)

Anyway...these three seem like my most viable options right now.  I really like the idea of the front-inlet MagnaCharger if I can get it to work.  I'd like some advice from people with more know-how than me regarding these options, and I'm always open to  suggestions.

What?! You don't like THIS look?!

You may be able to use a blower set-up designed for the L-98/LT1 series easier. That way, the intake will still bolt up to your engine, and it will be a front inlet design. I think no matter which design you use, you're gonna wind up with at least a taller hood, like a modified L88 style, to have any chance of putting a blower/intake/intercooler in there. Just an opinion tho...

It sounds to me that the Setup You want is by far the best for Your set up and You are on the Right Track. I would also assume that the Blower People would be able to mix and match there own Parts to be able to come up with a SBC FI set up if they don't offer it allready. I'm sure Your not the first one to ask. Most of the "Kits " are Built for specific Cars wich make up the Majority of there Sales. However I'm sure that they would like to accomadate somthing they can make from there own parts bins. If You want to know what would work best under that Turbo Hood its just a Couple of Klicks away at www.Galebanks.com Yes I'm a bit bias on this one....Richard....

Richard...a long time ago, I considered the use  of a Banks twin kit for the stingray...and I'm still intrigued by the thought.  Even though I think I've settled on a supercharger for this project, I will likely in the future look at another corvette for pure racing, and I would love to hear all about your car, and how you've had your kit set up.  If you're feeling up to it...you can send whatever details you'd like to michael.jon.mercado@us.army.mil.

I would definitely like some pictures, too.

I have done it all the Hard Way.  I got my Banks Kit in the late 80's when they were getting Heavy into Diesel Trucks. So when I got it the Exhaust Mainifolds Were not avalable so I built My own along with a Lot of other stuff that would normal'y have been included.  A Carurator is nothing more than a Controled Fuel Leak and a Blow Through System is Nothing more than a Fuel Leak out of Control! So the Car ran Great on a Dyno but not very well around Town. Then other Needs came along and the Car sat for 12Years. Then Three Years ago I got going on a Restoration- Modernazation Project wich is just Now Comeing togeather. The first thing I did was Add Accell gen 7 FI and what a Diffrence that made! It starts and runs Like a New Car. Then off Came the Body and and a TKO 600 Trans and a Vintage Air  Serpintene Belt Setup went in. Now that Diesel Trucks are so good from the Factory Banks isn't doing as much as they were before and they have come out with the Gas Twin Turbo Setup again. And Guess what they are Using the Gen 7 and Vintage Air Setup. Just like I did. By the Way the Vintage Air is a Real Nice Kit and was Made for Street Rods But Bolts Right into a C-3 wich Never Happens.  I could go on and on if You want to here more. Richard.....
