Hello all,  I have a query regarding removal and replacement of a brake light switch in my '80.When I was thinner and younger (71 Yesterday) I would curl up in the cockpit of the Vette snake my hand in under the dash and remove/replace the switch, well that ain't happening, hence I am inquiring if there is a cute trick to get to the switch and replace the part. I can tell you I would rather build another engine than fight this switch, engine building is much easier..I would appreciate any suggestions to help me replace this switch.  Thanks in advance and have a great day.

Happy belated Birthday!
Not really sure there's any easy way, other than removing the lower dash panel under the steering column. That will at least let you see more stuff.
Last resort is pulling the driver seat out, just to have more room.
You don't have a small, nimble friend that owes you a favor? LOL

Firstly,Thank you for the birthday wish, I thought of removing the lower panel as had done that many years ago to install a switch for an antenna. There is a vent tube there as well and I am sure that will have to be remove to see all the wires etc. there and then maybe I can get to the switch to remove/replace,and yes I have a 14 yr. old grandson who would love to help and maybe I will after I remove the panel. I figured I would have to remove the seat, however hoped I could find another easier way..No way with a Vette.I have owned Vettes since they rolled off the line in St.Louis, first one was a '58 and have had one every since.Lot of Vette's lots of fun..Thanks again for the B-Day wish and the help,it confirmed what I figured, however hoped there was another way I didn't know..Have a great day today and everyday and congratulate you on a great Vette site and members..Sal C

Just did one on my 74 last week and I cant say there is an easy way. I think the answer is your 14 yr old grand son. Great way to spend some time togther! As you know its not a tough replacement except to get to it. If you remove the seat, he can get in upside down and you could look in from outside the door and guide him thru it.
Best of luck and Happy Birthday as well.
Rodney

Good luck with the replacement. My grandsons love to come and help me on the vette. I gave each their own socket set. They are 6 & 8 so they loose interest pretty quickly. I enjoy their help and when they leave go back and redo some of their work , I really enjoy it . Happy belated B Day Big AL. You can see them in my member photo

As most of you know my 16 year old daughter is my chief mechanic thanks to her smaller hands and ability to follow poor directions.  It's the best part of all my projects, sharing your enjoyment with someone you love.  So, enjoy the help from your new head mechanic!
