Topic: Breakdown results and good news
in Forum: C3 Engines
Well finally got my engine apart and the valves were slightly bent, hardly noticable to the eye but would not seat, no compression. The good news for 110K miles the cylinder walls all look good, rings good, no problems on the bearing side, lots of the timing chain parts in the front of the pan, and some marks on a few of the pistons where the valves hit the pistons. I guess the whole problem came from the timing chain giving out and then valves hitting the pistons, then bent push rods, etc, etc.
Since the engine looks so good, I am not going to do the rebuild on it, I am buying a new one. I am keeping the original engine as is and tucking it in the garage corner (probably forever), and I bought a new GM ZZ383 today!!!!!! Can't wait to get that baby put in...... 425HP 450 TQ. Trany is also out getting refreshed and new torque converter with a higher stall.
Thanks to all the forum members who telephoned help, sent Private messages, and answered post questions. This was a tough decision $$$$ and everyones advise helped me to get there.
Now back to cleaning, sanding, and painting as many old parts as I can.
