I have an 81 with a broken exhaust manifold bolt.It is broken off inside the head on the passenger side where the A/C bracket connects. this is causing an exhaust leak. Any suggestions on removing it? Besides the obvious? Are there any alternatives or new gadgets out there to remedy this? Thanks.

It can be removed without removing the head by using a right angle drill and "EZ" outs. The best way though is still the old fashioned way, remove the head to make sure you get it right and don't screw up the threads or anything.

Best way is to pull the heads. You have to take off the exhaust manifolds anyway, so if more break more bolts it will be Ok. Then send it out and get the heads rebuilt and bolts removed ($20/bolt). You can then use Stainless steel bolts. This way the top end will be done the right way...clean the intake & carb...

Thanks to everyone who responded for all your advice. I have checked into having the head removed and done the right way and it will cost a couple bucks but well worth it.
