Vette(s): 1979 Cream Beige Coupe w/383 & 700R4
I know it seems like I'm posting a new question a day in various sections, but that's how often I seem to find problems with the vette

Anyway, my 79 has a 383 stroker w/Trick Flow 23 degree heads. I just tonight found a lot of coolant leaking out by the most rearward cylinder on the drivers side. It doesn't appear to be getting in the cylinder, no smoke atleast, but it's dripping pretty bad down the block.
Anyway, can I just get any old head gasket from somewhere such as AutoZone, or do I need a special gasket since the block was bored 30 over for the 383?
Thanks as always

Hello, well there are a couple of ways to build a 83 but lets assume that it is the Normal way of a 350 Block with a 400 Crank. This would mean that any old 350 Gasket will work. But then the Heads are Aluminum arn't they? So I'd plan on Using a Premium Gasket Like Felpro. But before You do that You might want to ask Trick Flo. And You had probably better figure out what made the last Gasket Fail if thats the Problem or its just going to happen again. And You are going to change Both Head Gaskets so that You have the same Thickness and therefore the same Compression on both banks right. Richard...
This is a case where the labor cost (your time) far outweighs the cost of the gasket.
I would get the best one I could find and get the best instructions for installing it.
You don't want to do it again.

Also get the best intake gaskets and valve cover gaskets from Felpro that you can. Also, a new carb base gasket. You probably need to find a parts house that handles AC/Delco but since you are close to the heart of NASCAR country, that shouldn't be too difficult.
They usually can be found in the industrial part of town and they usually ship to small mechanics shops so you could ask a local mech where he gets his AC stuff from as well.
