Belonging to this site is kinda like having a really mechanically-savvy friend...you get spoiled. Instead of reading up on a particular subject, it's easier to ask.
My question is: In carb talk, what is a double pumper. All I can imagine is it's probably one mean SOB. Hope everyone's having a great weekend.

There's double pumper and double feed carbs. Double feeds simply have two fuel feed inlets. Double pumpers have two feed inlets as well as two accelerator pumps instead of just one.

Double pumpers are generally for true high performance engines. They're really not necessary for the average street performance engine. It's kind of like being equipped like John Holmes...nice to flash the equipment around and brag, but not really necessary to get the job done.

Ill go further and say in most cases YOU SHOULD NOT use a double pumper on a street car. I will also say that you should not use a double pumper on a car unless you have a comfortable level of automotive experience.

They are made to go really fast and get really crappy gas mileage... if your engine is not "big" enough to handle the carb and/or you dont know how to "drive" a DP you are going to have worse performance and tons of maintance issues (fouling out plugs daily is one)..

And to expand on the aformentioned Holmes analogy... sometimes its just too damn big.

Thanks to you all, I'm becoming familiar with the terminology. I figured it was a bit much. Going down the street sideways and out of control is not my style (fun to watch, though). Like the John Holmes analogy!

Did you know that John Holmes drove a Corvette? Now you know where the "urban legend" comes from... |wink|

I thought that might have been the case as boogie nights was basically spoofing him and "Dirk Diggler" got one.
