I need to have my Rochester QJet rebuilt. I have had a difficult time locating a matching numbers carb. Most folks say they have it but when they check the numbers they are different. I am thinking about having mine re-built. Pony Carbs looks like they do a first rate job (completely dissasemble, inspect, evaluate, remanufacture,1yr warranty, all run tested), has anyone used them before? Also should I have it plated (this is an option)? |confusing| |smokin| |headscratch|

just be sure who ever does the plating has experience plating carbs as the plating (if not done correctly) will allow leaks where gaskets meet.

Nice car Gary.
I spoke with the carb folks again today and they indicated that if I don't go for the plating I will start seeing rust on some of the parts before long, especially here in Florida. I am going to look around a little more, but so far these folks have been real good to work with in talking over the phone, and they seem like they perform a real complete high quality job.

I'm not real sure. I have never seen a rusty one either. I am still not sure if it is worth getting the plating? |headscratch|

the body of the carb is cast aluminum so that can't be whats going to rust. the carb on my C3 has been replaced with a rebuilt by the PO. it runs great but i am on the lookout for a correct # carb just to have it. i will leave the carb thats on it for driving. maybe something to think about. purchasing a rebuilt for driving and keep the orgional. i don't know how much they want for the rebuilt carb or how much they want to rebuild yours?

I have been thinking about buying another carb for running and hold on to my matching numbers carb to remanufacture in the future. I took a nice ride today with the warm weather and she seemed to be running a little better. I may run it for another week or two before I decide what to do with the carb. Thanks.|saluteflag|

Another company that you might want to consider is Holley. I've never had this done, but they're a fairly big name in racing. http://www.holley.com Remember seeing a part of the website where they talked about rebuilding Carbs and anodizing them. I can't find it today, but you might have some more luck, or be able to call them and ask. If you decide to go the replacement route they have a huge number of carbs available and know what they're doing.

I rebuilt my Rochester last year with a kit from the local parts store. Previously the carb would leak fuel due to the float sticking after the car sat for more than a week or so. The rebuild fixed that but the car just doesn't perform like I think it should. Currently I am looking to replace mine with an Edelbrock Performer, which should bolt on fairly easy. At this time I do not think I'll change out the intake manifold. I am torn between a 600cfm or a 750cfm. I have a 454/390 and turbo trans.
