Al I've put in my gas is Stabil.  I'll have to check those out.

OK, I got the car home (runs a lot better) and I put a wad of clay bar on top or my air cleaner, and it looks like I have about 3/4ths of an inch clearance.  Would be tight  though.  I'd probably go with a 1/2 in phenolic spacer and may be a thin heat shield too.  1 inch might be pushing it.

I concur with the 1/2" phenolic spacer, however do not think you would have to use a heat shield wit phenolic spacer. By the way I failed to mention about testing the Lucas ethanol combative product, that I have noticed an increase in fuel economy.I have not a definative number as yet, however I drive the truck I have been testing everyday and normally have used more fuel then I have at the normal interval.I drive the same places everyday and by now I am in need of fuel and don't now..Like I say no definite MPG and will later determine next fillup etc..     Sal C

Hey, for me to put a 1/2" spacer under my carb, how do I lengthen the choke rod that is connected to the manifold?

with a couple pairs of plyers,  best bet is to make a new one in case the spacer doesn't work out.
