Vette(s): 1971 Corvette Stingray - 350 cu - Automatic 3 speed.
Hey Everybody!
I just bought my first Corvette and its a 1971 with a 350 Engine with a 4 bbl Edelbrock Carburetor. I've had it for about 3 weeks and its been running good for the most part, but the guy I bought it from said something about it running rich? I'm not sure what that means really and what would my engine be doing if it was running rich? How do I correct that if it is... Thanks!

"Rich" and "lean" refer to the air/fuel mixture. Rich means a higher proportion of fuel than is needed and lean means less.
An overly rich mixture can foul plugs, cause sluggish performance and promote carbon buildup in the combustion chambers, as well as decrease fuel economy
An overly lean mixture can cause jerky, hesitant perfomance, overheating and in extreme cases even melt a piston crown.
You need to adjust your carburator!

You need to adjust your carburator!
Adjust the fuel and air mixture through the two metering screws on the front of the carburetor. The left side controls the fuel intake, the right controls the air intake. Turn the screws inward to restrict flow, outward to increase flow. Continue to adjust the screws until you reach a balance between the two.

Vette(s): 1973 Orange Metallic Coupe (orig owner), L82, 4 spd (WR), PS, (A/C & PW (I installed from wrecked 73)), leather, AM/FM Stereo, ran with '65 FI unit earlier & will again some day.

Also an overly rich condition can "wash down" oil on the cylinder walls causing premature wear.
