Hello Everyone...new vette owner here getting ready to change the belts after power steering belt snapped...all the belts are off...what's best to clean the pullys with? Was going to NAPA for parts?? Someone told me 3/8 versus 7/16 for better fit?? All advice appreciated!

For routine belt changes, you don't have to clean the pulleys, the belt keeps them at bare metal. If they are rusty, wire brush them; if greasy, any degreaser will work. I like NAPA belts, they are Gates brand. I would keep the same size as the book suggests, smaller belts will wear faster and may snap. If you have a problem with belts flying off at high rpm (over 6000), Moroso makes deep groove belts that may help. If you have a problem at low rpms, check pulley alignment, it must be exactly right (within 1/16") and parallel. Joe

It only gets interesting if/when you start changing things around in the engine house. When I went to tall valve covers (to clear roller rockers)the alternator had to move outboard on its bracket to clear. Bye-bye factory spec belts --- trial and error time. I have a post here somewhere that talks about it.
As Joe said, NAPA belts are Gates = good stuff for us drivers.

Thanks for the help guys...
Changed them with very few headaches...just a few tough bolts to get too and I haven't figured out all the little "tricks" to make the fixes easier...but I'm learning...
Looks like I have to order the water pump belt for the 454 as NAPA and the rest dont show the belt on their data...
Thanks again...
