Ken:

As a Standard Member, you don't have access to the Tip and Tricks area of the Tools Tab, but the knowledge and info info you have sure belongs there.

Why don't you email the moderator or Adam and see if any of the info you have presented here can be loaded into Tips and Tricks?

Thanks for taking the time to give us your personal experience and detailed explanations!

Jim |cheers|

Captn Bill that's a really cool car you have. I still have some English Leather. I'll send it to you and you can wear some when you drive it. You're in Lakewood, I'm in Mentor and Ken's in Cuyahoga Falls. Maybe we can get together this summer. Would like that.
Ken, I also am looking forward to your "classes". You'll find that there a number of members who are great at sharing their knowledge. Makes it that much easier for guys like me with limited knowledge. Thanks to you all.
Hank

Thanks Hank..I appreciate it. Sounds like a plan on the get together, always up for meeting new friends. Thanks for the English Leather-that stuff should be about 90 proof by now...
Regarding the synthetic oil, I've decided to go with the Mobile One, anything that will reduce friction and heat, I'm all for it. |cheers|

Hank51 and Capt Bill, getting together this summer would be great! I look forward to it. With you guys that close you'll probably know where I teach, Stark State College of Technology in North Canton.
And anything I can do to help, count me in.
I actually saw English Leather at Big Lots in stow last week....I you really want a bottle......LOL.....I might even have some left here at the house, Don't hold me to that one.
I do have to get my 75 put together before then, but hey I bought it for a project, and I do like a challenge, and I love a C3. Let's keep in touch till summer.

Oil additives are marketed on hype and not much else. There's no magic solution to engine problems. From a technical standpoint, the major oil companies do great amounts of scientific research and have too much at stake to provide an inferior product. Stick with a reputable product from one of the majors and you can't go wrong. For severe (incl. cold) service, synthetic is the best you can do. All the additives you need are included in the oil from the major oil companies. Aftermarket additives are just throwing your money away. Just ask them to provide credible written test results on a comparative basis. You won't get it.

Some additives do work for specfic problems. Nothing in a can will fix a mechanical failure, but can be a "Bandage". If you don't have that problem you usually waste your money. If the car is well cared for most (not all) additives are a waste. It depends on your individual situation. Chemicals can be a big help. Cleaners are good, if they are good cleaners. MOST aftermarket chemicals are sold for ONE purpose, and they serve that purpose well. They are designed to take your money! Be choosey or waste your cash. This is not limited to additives. There are many products designed to improve gas mileage, promise to pass emissions test, etc. Most are there for the same reason, to take your cash. Magnetic fuel charge, spin the intake air, etc. are a bunch of hooie.

Ever think to wonder why spinning your intake air would help when all high performance intake parts are designed to straighten out and smooth intake air flow? Just to take your cash. (They actually hurt performance and mileage if they do anything at all) Magnetic fuel charge, this is even more absurd. ( these actually do something, they look funny under your hood)
Emission products are one of two things. 1. cleaners.
2. Alcohol, this supplies oxygen in the fuel mix and does in fact lower emissions. It also reduces power. And the gain on a warm enging is small. It takes a lot. but if you use too much, you get poor combustion, and the emissions go way up.
Buyer beware.
