Wonder if the excessive heat could have let a stud wuggle up a little bit (assuming they are pressed in). For the heck of it, it would cost nothing but a little time to yank off a valve cover and adjust the valves really quick.

Find a buddy to assist if you've never done it yourself...
Although, if the valve was far enough out of adjustement, you'd normally hear it at idle as well.
Couldn't hurt!!
