Hey guys,

I'm a bit confused. A dude that we had comign to the house to do these parts for the engine ended up backing out and never came. So it's up to my dad and I to do it. MY dad has never attempted to do any of these 3 things. They are putting the new distributor in, roller rockers, and the oil pump. I have the instructions, and technical/orde form for the rockers here:

How do I know when I have rotated the cam 2 full rotations? How do I know the final lift of the cam? How do I ensure that each one is on straigt, and correctly aligned with one another? Also the distrib how do I make sure the gear is fitted properly? The oil pump is like the heart of the engine it pumps the blood, so I want to make sure this goes on properly, how cna I ensure the proper installation fo this? Thanks guys,

-Louis

What I did was bought about 20 books (over 7 months) at Barnes and Noble Book store and read. I have never built and engine before but doing one now just by reading the books. They also have some good pics to give you an idea of how to do it. Just my 2 cents.

You can get the books at Summit, Jegs, book stores etc.  Well worth it.  We can give long detailed descriptions, but it will stil be confusing without the pictures.  What you are trying to do is really not that bad.  Some of the measurements are not necessary if you bought the correct pushrods for the rockers purchased.  It can be a package purchase.  This makes it easier, but there are still things to set.  Pictures help.  Please don't take this as an insult, it's not. But without some background information, you don't know enough to ask good questions or know what we are saying.

Get a good book or two, take a look at what you have.  Then with some rough idea, start asking.  We'll help. You can do it.

I guess I'll let a cat of the bag and share with you one of the best educational tools that I have found.  I own this and I believe everyone should have this in their library.  This is one of the most comprehensive videos that I have ever seen and they do a through and complete job of explaining everything that goes into building an engine.  And for the price its a no brainer.

here is the Link.

You can view samples of what you can expect on their website.  I think you will agree its one of the best you will ever see or ever use to educate and guide yourself through you first engine build.
