Hello all, and thanks for letting me ask this question.
I am at the stage in a rebuild of my 350 to paint the
engine before reassembly. Like everything else these days,
there are wayyyyy too many choices. I have been looking at the Dupicolor ceramic engine paint, but they list two different oranges. One is a straight fairly bright orange, and the other
is called red-orange. Which is closer to the correct orange for the 1969 Chevrolet small block?? I am not a purist, but I hate it when somebody laughs when I lift the hood up!! Help!!

I would guess the redish orange.

I'd agree on the reddish orange, however, why Duplicolor? I have to say that I've had several lousy experiences using their spray paint. I've been spraying parts for many years and I have never seen a worse paint. Do you have Krylon in your area? Better yet, visit a couple of your local automotive paint shops and inquire about the chevrolet orange. They can probably set you up with the correct, high quality paint.

Thanks to the responders of my question.I used the red-orange,
and the I am pleased with the finished product. I don't think
anybody will laugh when they see a restored 350 horse Corvette
engine under the hood!!

I'm also restoring my 350-350 hp engine. I just spoke to my rebuilder today and all should be done by next week so I hope to drop her in before June 7th. We also were discussing paint but our discussion was whether or not to paint over the stamp pad on the block. I thought that it was masked before painting but he said no, that the entire block should be painted. Do you know who's right?

I just did my (1975 L-48) valve covers and the duplicolor "orange" was much closer to my original color than the "orange red". But ... with that said, I don't know if the colors changed from 69 to 75 ....
The stamp pad should NOT be painted. I too have to agree that Duplicolor is the worst paint on the market. Plastikote Chevy Orange is a good choice.

Do not paint your vin plate it is bare nothing on it
your builder dosent know what he is talking about
just put some tape over that area and paint it.
If he did paint it use some thiner and remove the paint,
if you ever down the road want to have your car judged at say a NRCS event you will lose points if the stamp pad is painted.
