hi i have a 79 corvette l82 and everytime i go past about 4500 rpms it seems like the car looses power. ive heard that these hei ignitions automaticly suck about 4500 rpms is there any way to fix this for it will pull all the way to its 6000 rpm red line thanks rj

Please give us a little more information ie: carb size ,cam ,etc about your engine .The hei will supply your needs above 4500 . Also a description of losing power ,misfire etc.

I agree with George...need more info. My 427 has points and it just flat won't make power over 4000. It's not the HEI cause I don't have one.

Vette(s): Re-acquired 1982 Bright Blue Vette from the guy a sold it to 13 years ago. 1993 40th Anniv. Ruby Convertible- purchased for my wifes 40th birthday-It has Chromed Grand Sport Wheels, Grand Sport Flares and a functional rollbar.
I also thought that the HEI was supposed to limit your rpms so that you didn't accidentally thrash your engine
or something like that.

There are a couple guys from restoration shops that frequent the forum, possibly one of them can tell us if the '82 had a factory REV limiter ?? or he just needs to do some timing or carb adjustments ??
I can't speak to Corvettes particlarly but in general HEI systems did not have rev limiters. If your problem is ignition look to see if the coil burned through the rotor. Carbon tracks on the under side could tell the story.
