After my Voodoo 60103 (227/233 @ .050) cam install I thought I might have gone too big due to no low end. But I checked Cold Cranking Pressure on all cylinders and am getting +-190psi.

So, doesn't this show that I'm in a good range of cam size?

Maybe my problem is just a bad carb, hei or tuning? Any opinions?

Thanks!

I will be putting my VooDoo 60103 in later this week.  I'll let you know what I get.

Any larger overlap than stock will drop cranking compression a bit due to the increased overlap.  THis is normal.  The 190 is a very good number, if not actually a bit too high.  You may have a carbon build up in the engine.  Try running some GM Top Engine Cleaner through the engine.  Get it at a GM dealer.  Follow the directions.  And be sure not to be in an area where a LOT of smoke will bother anyone.  This could clear up a lot of problems if carbon is present, and it won't hurt anything if it is not. You are bound to have at least a little bit.  All engines do.

Thanks Ken. I appreciate your help and am really looking forward to hearing about your specs! I've never done any of this before and always have some sort of problem so I have to just narrow things down.

I guess I should stick with this cam instead of going with the smaller 262/268 if the psi is already a bit high?

It can also depend on what the rest of your engine is like.

Mine is the whimpy 165 hp.  I ran the car on a dyno then I just added an MSD distributor.  That cleaned up the exhaust a lot, but did not help the performance.  I had smoke and oder at wide open, but it's gone with the MSD.  You don't normally notice this at wide open, but when the car is stationary on a dyno, it show up.  The engine just could not do more.  Too restricted. But the MSD is doing it's job.

Then it got a Weland intake, hooker headers, true dual 2 1/2 inch exhaust and hooker aero chamber mufflers.  The exhaust went on Friday.  Man did that help a lot!  Tuesday or Wed I will know how much when it goes back on the dyno.   Then I will install the cam and then back to the dyno.  After that some head work and back to the dyno.

This build up is actually going to be an article in Corvette Enthusiast Magazine. (The only way I can afford it).  It should be very interesting.

Ken, can you let us know when it's going to be in? If I subscribe to one more mag, my wife is going to file for divorce.

They have not set a date as of yet.  I will let you know as soon as I do.  I'm guessing I need to complete it before they set a date.
