OK guys, picked these up on flea bay. They look like the right style for my late (apx july 21st production) 1970 vert. Is there a way to tell if they are originals? the guy I got them from was holding onto them for 30 years (supposedly) but, I see no part nmbs stamped anywhere, so I was wondering if they actually where orig's. Also I would like to know if there is anything else that goes with these...that I may need....no sense in trying to put 'em on unless I have all the parts, and of course finnaly, is there a good pic of how these are mounted so I can get it done....correctly......My car has none of this stuff on it now...and seams like it would look nice with it in place!!

I've got some reproduction pieces and some originals and the only thing I noticed side by side is that the reproductions have far superior chrome plating - i.e. better than stock.  Have you joined the NCRS?  The judging guide and ncrs forum are excellent resources for originality questions, well worth the money.  My brother is trying to nit pick every last detail on his 72 and for the most part, the information is already in the judging guide or posted on their forum.  When he's posted a question thats not already answered in either, it always seems to stir up a lively debate ending with someone posting up more details than even the original GM engineers knew.

I am almost certain that '70s didn't have the bottom "V" shaped pieces.  You should also have either four (early 1970), or two (late 1970) spark plug covers.  You are also missing the eight little brackets that hold the spark plug covers.  The two long black brackets in your picture are also extra.  I would bet the AIM page showing the shielding will have a change date for going from four to two plug covers.  The other pieces look correct for 1970.

I think what you have is for a later model.
I have the original top shield from one of my old '72s, so I went and verified. The top shield you show is the same as what is on my '74, but totally different from my '72 top. The '72 top has a small "window" on the front side, toward the air cleaner, that my '74, and the one you got does not. The top shield is also a bit wider than the later models.
Will it all fit on your '70? Certainly. Will it be "correct"?... Prolly not 100%, but if you're not going the judging route with the car, I see no reason to not use it.
If you look closely on the bottom "V" pieces, on the non-plated brackets, you might see a stamped manufacturer's mark...
Most of the shielding did not have any part #s on them, but may have a CPC, PCS, etc. on them...
I say run 'em!

My 70 has the two "v" pieces, but that top is the same as my '71. I suppose the top could have been used on later builds, I'm not sure. Larry is right, the two long black pieces are not for your car. The top on my early 70 is two piece. Mines also only has two of the spark plug covers, and I think the two fronts are missng.

The top is the same as my '71.  I only have one of the spark plug wire covers(actually I have two but they are the same one).  I do not know what the long black pieces are.

Well, crappola...is it possible that the '72s were different? I can take a pic later when I get home and post it.
I do know the earlier ones were two-piece tops.
No matter, I still say run 'em...

I'm interested in what your top looks like Joel - mine (early 72) looks like the OP's.

But it makes sense what you are saying, I'm not guarantying that mine are original (but I thing they are), and there is a little bit of contact with the top when I put my air cleaner on and off.

Thanks,
Matt

I'll get xome pics of it tomorrow...After I stuff meself silly. Maybe before. I do know it ain't nuttin like my '74, or the one pictured above...and I do know it was the original top from a '72...I've kept it all the years for some reason. I had the car back in '78-'79-'80, somewhere in there...it's long gone now tho. Traded(less engine/trans) it for a '63 Chebby II race car. Great deal, eh?
