Topic: Crossfire intake manifold help required
in Forum: C3 Engines

Heartbreak
I have a 1982 C3 crossfire.
Put a new intake manifold gasket on the crossfire. Lit the engine off and it still ran a little
fast about 10K that was down from 12K.
Used some carburetor cleaner to check for leaks.
Heard a puff sound when I sprayed the manifold around the distributor and next thing I know I can see part of my new intake manifold gasket. I know that is not good. As luck will have it a person I met on the registry lives a couple of miles from me and is putting a different engine in his vet. He will give me the gasket. So I can try this all over again tomorrow.
I would like to have any suggestions on what I should or should not do. I would really like the torque sequence for the intake crossfire intake manifold. I started on one an when clockwise. Was that wrong?
Torque to 25# over three revolutions around the manifold bolts.

Other than that, you can use a small amount of yellow(or black) weatherstrip adhesive around the water jackets to help hold the gasket(s) in place on the heads.
I'll look to see if I have the sequence for a cross-fire, but it should be no different than any other small-block...

I just could not find any torque sequence for the bolts except what one person said on the net and that was to start on one side and go clockwise around.
If that is correct I know the new spot that I will be starting at. I will also check the plate for flatness a little closer this time. The good news in all of this is I found a person in San Diego that has a spare top plate he will give me if I need it. He gave me a new gasket so at least I'm only out the time not time and money.
Please give me some wisdom on the torque sequence
Gilbert

The other 82 C3 owner in San Diego that was checking out the Registry offered me a gasket kit he did not need and when he found out I had a warped plate dug his out. He put a X-jet on his vett and did not need it anymore.
I just ran a flat edge over it and it looks good. For sure better than the last one.
He gave it to me but I would like to pay him something for it. Any suggestion?
