my 77 has cruise, mounted way under drvs fender.I see cable to speedo and another cable to trans, and a vacuum hose to a slavo, mounted on drvs side of engine/ fender well. Question: I imagine for speedo on dash to work this under fender device must remain  in car, true? The salvo can go away and the cable going up to Q-jet,since I don't care to use the cruise.Am I missing something with my thinking?

You need to keep the transducer in line for the speedometer to work, even if you remove the servo and plug the vacuum line. Even then, if the transducer goes bad, it will affect the speedometer operation. If that happens, you need to replace the transducer, but I imagine you can run a speedmoter cable meant for a non-cruise control car from the transmission to the speedometer. Don't know that for sure, but it sounds reasonable.

If you keep the transducer, you may as well keep the cruise control.

You CAN by-pass the transducer, and go directly from the trans to the speedo head, but the calibration will be off. You would need the adaptor for a non-cruise car that goes on the speedo housing at the trans. Then the speedo will read correctly.

mikeee,   why do you want to remove the cruise control transducer?  That's the part in the fender.
The servo is the vacuum motor that move the linkage.

Is the speed inop?   Cruise inop?   What are you trying to repair or test?

I'm not mad at the transducer,It's out of the way under the fender. It's the salvo I want gone.I never use cruise on any of my cars, will use headers on this 77,and I want to simplify the carb linkage and clean up the engine compartment  a little(remove salvo)

If the speedometer is working okay, you can remove the servo and brackets.  Just plug the vacuum lines at the transducer.   Be sure to save the parts for any possible future owner.
