What are the degrees oftiming ignition for the L83 engine in 1982? I have, however, small changes. I threw injection and I put the carburetor. - Edelbrock carburetor # 1406 - Edelbrock Performer manifold RPM # 2101 - Edelbrock Performer camshaft Plus # 2102 - HEI ignition engine (high energy ignition) with Accel Super Coil coil 140003

Hello,
With the exception of an 85 in tank fuel pump and a heated O2 sensor, my 82 is stock.
When I got Baby the timing was set to above the max to 12 degrees. I changed it back
to the stock value of 6 degrees and have been using regular unleaded ever since.
The engine runs just a bit warmer and the performance is just fine for a daily driver.
Did you install a new ignition? The stock firing signal originates with the computer that
fires the HEI spark module in the distributor. It the computer is still installed and operating
it will be in the limp home mode. Mostly that affects the injectors and air fuel mix
which you don't have. I don't know if that will change the spark trigger pulse.
Good luck and all the best from Tucson,
Keith

Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
I was thinking the same thing. Is the computer still in the car or did they change that also. If they did then I would guess you would be close to being a 1981 as far as timing and operation goes.
But I'm not that smart on it. I do believe that whoever is smart on this subject will need to know if the computer is connected or not.

Do you still have the original distributor? Does it have the two separate plugs? If it still has the separate, flat, 4 wire plug, you need to disconnect that, or change the distributor to an earlier model. Otherwise, you will not be able to have any control over the advance.
If you have changed the distributor already, and it has a vacuum advance, you would typically want to see around 28* total advance for that engine, and compression ratio. There really is no one specific set-up that works for every engine, so you will need to "play" with it some to get the optimum combination.

I have a traditional dysrybutor with vacuum and mechanical acceleration (weights and springs).
I understand that 28 * for 2500-3000 rpm? How to idle 900 rpm? The vacuum hose disconnected?

hehehe I have scale AFTER 8* and BEFORE 12* :):) I set the idle 900 rpm or draw the next degrees :):)

Vette(s): 1980 L- 82 fully restored and upgraded.
If as you have stated you changed it all so that it has no computer controls then your timing can be set pretty easily.
Google "Lars SBC timing tips" read it til you understand it and apply it to your motor and you will be a happy camper

I did what Lars said in his paper on my 77 and it was great until the smog guy would mess it all up. now I have a 72 and did the same thing but the smog guy wont see this car, so it will stay spot on.
if you want to make it easy to time get a dial back timing light it really makes it much easier.
