Yep, my tach went out too, don't know what's wrong with it yet. Also had my left front caliper poop out too, leaking break fluid....got to get that fixed.

Yeah, Paul, but at least the circuit board replcement is nothing like a distributor rebuild!

Barry

Ok so today I ran the car so I can see inside the little screw on spot where the tach goes ..no spin..so I guess its a rebuild the distributor time..looks like the parts are cheap..should be fun..and Barry..I will take my mechanical over electrical anyday!

Come on Rich, you know I didnt do it! did i tell you my tach in the 72 doesnt work and I needed some parts! Hah it works now! lol
Hope you get it workin, How did your show go today? Where were you at? Next week they have the one at the ice cream place in Red Lion on Sunday. I might sneak up to that one with my parents. Have to see how the weather is. Someone said that the one at Sonic starts this month as well.
Let me know how your distributor rebuild goes. Mine needs done as well. Gear doesnt drive the cable.

Ah you know how these old cars are..they just break for no apparent reason..I was at Sonic today..maybe 75 cars I guess..actually a few cars I haven't seen before..is that ice cream place where Dealin Daves was? He threw some great times in there when he did that party once a year.. burnouts and beer..I have the parts list started..might shoot for the end of the week..or next..to rebuild..wish this crap would happen when its winter time...

Ok a little update..got me parts..but..now I need a shaft also..got to say that I ordered this stuff from Corvette America..I order in the morning and get it the next day..got the whole parts kit..even the bushings..they have a new style tach drive gear and guide that uses needle bearings in it..pretty Dern cool..I took a pic of the bad shaft and an aluminum tag that was on it also..I will have to figure out what it all means!

Be VEEEEWWY Careful with that tag!!!
They will self destruct quite easily!!
The tag has the part number, and date on it. The part number identifies what engine the dist is set up for, so be sure the tag stays with the dist, even if you have to put it in a small box, or bag somewhere, so it doesn't get damaged.
Yer shaft is toast, fer sher....dangit. Also, be careful when replacing the bushings in the dist. There are a LOT of them out there that are not the correct O/D, and lots of guys are busting their distributors pressing them in...they are too large. If there is not very much play in the shaft on the bushings, I wouldn't mess with them....my opinion. You don't wanna end up with a busted dist housing, too....

I noticed the tag was very thin..I may leave it off and put it with the POP and other paperwork..be honest with you about the bushings..they really don't feel bad..they just had them and the install tool to do them..so I bought em..I have to wait and see how the new shaft fits in there before I go that route..still..how does one get them out??? That looks harder than install!! Anyhow what's the opinion on using the new shafts cam?? I have found that it used to be removed off the old one and brazed onto the new one..is this really necessary? ? Anyhow I will wait on the new shaft..
