Hi gang,
Working on a friends '78 with the L-82(also working on my friend to join us in the forum). His dipstick was bottoming out on the oil pan,so I had him purchase the original GM product and we have the same problem. He only bought the 'vette this week.Mine is an '82 and I'm more familiar with mine. What gives???
Could bubba have installed the wrong pan,or??? Thanks in advance,
Jules

It could be the wrong pan. I also would not be surprised if you are getting the wrong part.
A shortcut could be to change the oil, put the proper amount of oil in it, and just cut the dipstick to length, then mark or scribe on it where your full level is. At least until you figure out wheteher or not you have the right dipstick for the pan.

when I bought my l-36 it had the wrong tube, stick and pan..
a trifecta
id check the tube, its relatively cheap and often times damaged when engines are pulled... usually the same idiots that damage the tube are the ones who take one off the gmc pickup on blocks in the front yard.
also make sure there are no big dents in the oil pan..
