Vette(s): 1981 Charcoal Met., Silver Interior, Gymkhana Suspension, 27K original miles. It's my daily driver.
Is there any particular reason that you don't see many Vette's with the big black plastic bulky dist. cover on them? My car has one, but it just seems like a real pain to try and get it back on. I am doing plugs, wires, cap, rotor and it just looks like it will try and pull a wire loose trying to put it back on. Also does anyone know where to get the small white clip that goes into the dist. The clip that holds it onto the dist. broke as I was trying to take it off. I can get the spade connector out, I just need an elec. connector to put it in. Thanks, Tom

You might try Lectric Limited 708-563-0400 or a corvette salvage house or Eckler's, Mid America. I have an 81 also and it too broke; however, it still clips and holds so I did not have to get a replacement.
good luck gurtz

Tom, when you put the cover back on, be careful of the vacuum lines which come through the firewall gromet. I broke a vacuum line putting mine back on. There is a dimple on the passengers side of the cover that goes around those lines...... or at least there is on my 82, yours is probably the same. At the moment, my cover is off, not sure if I'm going to put it back or not.
Mine was missing when I got the car and I haven't been in too much of a hurry to replace it.
The older C-3's had the chrome ones that looked cool and helped with radio noise (or so the story goes). The ones for the late model C-3's look like you cut it out with a dull pocket knife.
I noticed that Mid-America sells chrome decal type material to go on it.
I think perhaps people think it's ugly and don't bother to try to replace it as it provides no noise supression and doesn't look that great.

Mine was missing also when I bought it. I have been looking for the black plastic one for a while now, just can't seem to locate one. I do see the chrome one's though all over the place.
I like the look with it on, Just not sure if it was standard on all, I imagine it was, between that and the 8 track radio are the only things left.
