Can somebody give me approval or i'm i wrong ? :

I think you may place the ditributorshaft in ANY position AS LONG as you rotate the house  in the correspondenting one. Firing  #1  at his TDC  and all others follow .
The problem is that with the house you cannot choose anything because of rev cable connection and vac line.
But i find you can put the shaft in about 3 positions ( 1 tooth difference ) and turn the house in the correspondenting one. Ofcourse 1 position gives with static advance installed the best "free"  routing for those external connections .
I go further : there are many more  possibilitys  if you go  rotating the spark wires on the distributor-cap ! ( of course in the same firing order ! )

I'M I WRONG HERE ?????????????

I think the only "be afraid" and putting those marks is :
if you don't know it and not install it in the exact old position it is good possible that you cannot start the car and therefore ofcourse can not adjust it with timing light.

Then you should also put the engine on the O mark ( TDC ) #1 and have the pointer at his sparkwire ....

DO I MAKE A MISTAKE HERE ????? or is this right ?????

Norbert/Barry, you can point the rotor tip in any position you want, as long as the #1 plug wire lines up with the rotor, in the #1 firing position. The positioning of the housing determines how much room you have to twist the dist., to set the timing. On our cars, with the cable-driven tach, theres only a small window of room to install the housing.
If you have the original dist., look at it. On the base, where the clamp tightens it to the manifold, you will see a line, put there with a chisel at the factory. On the intake manifold, there is a corresponding line. The factory used a chisel to mark both the dist. and the manifold, in the same hammer stroke. This is the correct position for the housing.
Now, of course, if you don't have the orig. dist., or the intake, then this will do you no good at all, will it?! It is info for others, tho, who do still have the orig. dist & intake. If you line these two marks up, the cable for the tach will be in a perfect line with the hole in the dash it goes thru.

YES ! thanx again Joel. That was my doubt about my engine problems.I have indeed the mark on the distributor but having a Weiand 8004 intake manifold , there's no line... but i find a good "free" routing for the rev cable and a free possible adjusting for the vac. When i bought the car  the vac actuator  was almost against the firewall  so retarding  was no possible , at least very limited !
Amusing how , in the 3 books i have , how different they instruct to place distributor and captower and spark wires.... There's one who says that #1 should be at the first tower after ( or before , i don't know anymore ) of the inspection window for dwell adjustment. As if the distributor-tower  has  a pre-in-mold  firing order !  it's 360° divided in  8 equal parts , all the same !

Yeah, normally the #1 wire will be the first terminal clock-wise from the window. But, who's to say what's "normal"
